LexisNexis Legal & Professional, Business Insight Solutions, April 2016

The March 2016 Human Trafficking Awareness Index for the UK shows 615 trafficking-related articles published by the British and Irish media during March 2016. Using the Nexis filter of 'Subject' to filter through results against 'Society, Social Welfare & Lifestyle', reveal a diverse selection of reporting highlighting cases of human trafficking.

The Exeter Express and Echo reports on Paul Jepson's play - 'This is My Body' a performance through one woman's experience of human trafficking and slavery in the 21st century. "Theatre is a powerful medium in highlighting important issues and raising awareness. Paul's passion for the subject matter emanated throughout the piece, as well as during the after show talk where he was evidently emotionally moved, as were the audience."

The search results also pull results from TV recordings. EBC TV news (supplied by BBC Monitoring Africa) reveals a report over video of Ethiopean Justice Minister Getachew addressing a meeting in Addis Ababa on ways to curb human trafficking.

The Argus (Newsquest Regional Press) reports on how The Body Shop's founder Dame Anita Roddick is remembered 40 years after the first shop opened in Brighton. Aside from setting the agenda through its natural cosmetic products, The Body Shop fought wider wars on whaling alongside Greenpeace and stood up for human rights with Amnesty International. It led a self-esteem campaign to counteract the expectation of women to look like supermodels and more recently highlighted the vulnerability of women through sex trafficking at a time when the practice was not making big headlines. Stop Sex Trafficking was something initiated by Anita Roddick who noted that it was under the radar but would become a social issue.
