Contributing to SDGs 2, 12 and 13, his review discusses the major challenges in food industry and how synthetic biology has the potential to revolutionize the future of the food. Finally, the prospects and challenges of synthetic biology for a sustainable food manufacturing are discussed.
825 food companies from 16 countries were included in this multi-country study. Maturity of a food safety system triggers the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Staff awareness and hygiene are most important attributes combating Covid-19. Retailers are the food supply chain link mostly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Less than a half of companies have any emergency plans associated with pandemics.
This book chapter advances SDGs 13, 12 and 15 by discussing climate change and its causes and effects on water resources and implications for adaptation.
Cellulose-based solutions can improve environmental performance of food packaging. Food products require specific barrier functions from cellulose-based packaging. Eco-design enables quantifying environmental performance and identifying trade-offs. Fulfilling the barrier requirements for food product packaging is crucial.
The latest price movement in the European carbon markets (EU ETS) has reached its all-time high of €40/tonne, which demonstrates how much uncertainty is currently present in the market. Contributing to SDGs 12 and 13, this white paper provides scenario-based impact analysis of the market stability reserve in the context of the EU ETS review.

Trends in Food Science and Technology, Volume 108, February 2021

The food industry creates significant environmental, economic and social impacts. The food industry have therefore shown interest in assessing the sustainability of their activities, however, most sustainability analyses are currently done after the food product is designed. The food industry can use methodologies and tools to support sustainability assessments. Sustainability assessments should be undertaken in the first stages of the new product development process.

This Article addresses SDGs 3, 12, and 13 by modelling the impact of placing health as a central focus of climate policies. The findings showed that compared with current policies, a scenario in which policies were consistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement and the SDGs substantially reduced air pollution-related deaths, diet-related deaths, and deaths due to physical activity. They showed that adopting an even more ambitious health-focused climate policy would result in further reductions in deaths as well as mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and harmful pollutants.

Materials and the Environment (Third Edition): Chapter 2 - Resource consumption and its drivers, Volume , 2021.

This book chapter advances SDG 12 by summarizing the orders of magnitude of the flow of materials, energy and water that material production entails.

Materials and the Environment, Third Edition: Chapter 11 - Renewable materials, natural materials, Volume , 2021

This book chapter advances SDGs 9 and 12 by exploring whether renewable materials, derived wholly or in part from nature, can play a larger role in the engineering economy of the 21st century.
This study revealed that the self-reported food safety practices of the food handlers at home engaged in online businesses, in terms of personal hygiene, cross contamination prevention and sanitation, food preparation and food delivery, violate national and international food safety standards
