It is clear is that much of the world’s kelp forests have declined, creating broad concerns about the ramifications of this destruction both in terms of additional emissions and in terms of loss of valuable services. Kelp forests are important and vulnerable ecosystems that are changing rapidly, but they exist out of sight for many people and are rarely considered in global strategies to combat biodiversity loss and increase carbon sinks.
