Elsevier published Sustainability Science in a Global Landscape which analysed the sustainability science research according to six themes: Dignity, People, Prosperity, Planet, Justice, and Partnership. Key data has since been updated covering 2011 to 2015 for the top 15 countries  in sustainability science output.
The aim of the conference is to examine the evolving expectations, available solutions, measurements and best practices associated with the optimization of research strategies. The theme of the 2017 conference will be "Universities and the Power of Data — Science for a Sustainable Society" and will focus on crucial areas such as sustainability, diversity, and the Power of Data in research. The event helps to advance SDG 4 Quality education and SDG 10 Reduced inequalities.

This brief article presents a renewed and strengthened version of Kate Raworth’s well-known Doughnut model, which describes the social and ecological boundaries to human wellbeing. The model shows twelve dimensions and their illustrative indicators are derived from internationally agreed minimum standards for human wellbeing, and it relates to nearly all of the SDGs.
The decision-making process for sustainable development (SD) needs to consider 4 types of rationalities, namely instrumental rationality to engage people towards SD; substantive rationality to integrate values for SD in decision making; communicative rationality to promote cooperation and coordination for more SD; and bounded rationality to consider human cognitive properties and the presence of complexities intrinsic to SD. More sustainable decisions would require educating for sustainability-related values to influence individual decisions; making decision-makers accountable and promoting systemic changes in the current development model.
Children at Imperial College London
The Elsevier Foundation partners with Imperial College London to support a high-tech makerspace next to the college. The programme offers 14 to 18 year-olds from one of London's most disadvanataged communities the opportunity to enhance soft skills and engage with cutting-edge science, engineering and design through workshops, afterscool clubs, and mentoring. The maker challange programmes offer important enrichment to young people, who would not otherwise have this explosure, and further support both SDG 4 and SDG 17.

HPCC Systems offers free introductory online training classes for anyone wanting to learn the basics of the ECL programming language and the open source HPCC Systems platform. Included in the training are self-paced lessons, lab exercises and a moderated Q&A forum to increase proficiency for solving Big Data problems. HPCC Systems training advances SDG 4 Quality education and SDG 9.B to support domestic technology development, research and innovation in developing countries.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is vital for advancing the SDGs. This paper looks at transformative learning that prepares students for societal change. The discussion is grounded both in theories about hope from disparate scientific disciplines and in empirical research about young people’s hope concerning global climate change. These insights particularly inform SDG 4.7 to ensure that all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, as well as SDGs 3, 11 and 13.
