The SDG Impact of COVID-19: The view of Vic Van Vuuren, Director of the Enterprises Department at the International Labour Organisation (ILO)

In this segment, RELX’s Global Head of Corporate Responsibility, Dr Márcia Balisciano, talks to Vic Van Vuuren, Director of the Enterprises Department at the ILO.

After completing a law degree, Vic started his working career at the South African Department of Justice as a public prosecutor and magistrate. Thereafter, he moved into the private sector as a corporate legal advisor and human resources director at executive level in large corporates.

Vic later helped establish a unified South African business federation, Business Unity South Africa, and was appointed as the first Chief Operations Officer.

In February 2009, Vic was appointed as the Director of Southern and Eastern Africa at the ILO, covering 23 countries. In January 2016, he was appointed as the Director of the Enterprises Department at the ILO office in Geneva.

Vic is currently the chairman of COPAC (The Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives), the UNTFSSE (United Nations Task Force of the Social and Solidarity Economy) and chairman of the PAGE Management Board (Partnership for Action in the Green Economy).

He served on the South African Council for Higher Education, the National Economic Development and Labour Council, the ILO Governing Body, the Council of the Pan African Employers’ Confederation and the South African Power Utility Research Advisory Board.
