Can philanthropy bridge the funding gap required to advance the Sustainable Development Goals? Join thought leaders, including Ban Ki-moon, 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations; Sir Lenny Henry, actor, comedian, writer & philanthropist and Sarah, Duchess of York, author & humanitarian, in discussing the role for philanthropy in addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The United Nations estimates that the funding gap to realise the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is likely north of $4 trillion annually. Cuts to state aid announced in 2025 across a number of global capitals will only exacerbate the situation further.  Can philanthropy step up to bridge the divide?

We will discover what direction philanthropy – both cash and in-kind – is likely to take over the five years left to run on the SDGs; in particular, the role for relevant stakeholders, including companies, trusts and foundations and citizens.  We will explore the nexus between private and public funders in areas aligned with RELX’s unique contributions ranging from financial inclusion, improving science and health, access to justice and fostering resilient communities.

Join us for RELX SDG Inspiration Day 2025 - a free, online event to explore issues, gain practical insights and be inspired to take action in support of the UN SDGs.

With the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals deadline fast approaching, we need philanthropy to do more than fund good intentions — it has to drive real systems change. That means putting power in the hands of communities, backing bold solutions, and being brave enough to take risks.

I encourage you to dig into the critical content available through the RELX SDG Resource Centre — and join the upcoming RELX SDG Inspiration Day. It’s a chance to deepen our understanding and push forward with urgency. Let’s not just talk about impact — let’s make it happen.”
