Women have struggled for their place in the surgical discipline for thousands of years. Today, women in medicine, surgery, and Hand Surgery are increasing, but the history of this journey has not been recorded. Entrée to Hand Surgery includes effective mentorship, sponsorship, equitable training opportunities, research, funding, and engagement in national and international societies. Female Hand surgeons have made paradigm-changing contributions to the field of Hand Surgery. All hand surgeons should know the history of our specialty, its culture, and how to become active allies for contributing to our shared community.
