Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable

A dynamic decision-making framework is developed to set national priorities in Qatar. The performance of a local energy-water-food nexus is assessed for future policy directions. Sustainability, security and resilience are the performance pillars adopted to assess nexus sectors.
A framework to identify roofs for food, water, and energy production is proposed. Agriculture can be implemented on 8% of roofs to produce tomatoes and lettuce. Service buildings and residential housing are more suitable for agriculture.
Promotes Goal 5 Gender Equality by proposing ways in which transport can be made safer for women in Bangladesh.
The concept of “Smart City (SC)” has been proposed and adopted by various city planners and policymakers as a means to enable efficient transportation systems, sustainable mixed land uses, and high-quality urban services, in an effort to improve citizens’ quality of life. However, it may unintentionally reinforce existing inequalities. In particular, without appropriate strategies that support inclusion, persons with disabilities and seniors may experience social and digital exclusion in communities.
This article aims to present and discuss the energy and environmental reality in the building sector and critically investigate the future pathways towards its decarbonisation.
The authors propose the adoption of a mnemonic for climate action that healthcare professionals can embrace and use as a platform to catalyse action.
