This chapter defines the fugitive emission in oil and gas industry and negative consequences on the environment such as pollution, greenhouse effect as well as global warming. Different parameters which should be considered for actuator selection are discussed in detail. This chapter proposes a model and flow chart for the actuator selection to minimize the emission and environmental pollution. Usage of electrical and pneumatic actuators is proposed as much as it is practical to use them. The actuator selection proposal covers both topside and subsea oil and gas industry.
