Hydrogen holds significant promise as a clean energy solution across various sectors, offering emissions-free energy generation and transportation. However, challenges in production, storage, and transportation hinder its widespread adoption. Efforts to address these obstacles include advancements in electrolysis technologies, such as offshore hydrogen production using wind energy, and innovative storage methods like liquid organic hydrogen carriers. Moreover, a shift toward renewable energy sources for hydrogen production, such as biomass gasification and solar/wind-powered electrolysis, reflects a growing trend toward sustainable energy solutions. Despite historical reliance on fossil fuel-based methods, there is a global push toward environmentally friendly alternatives. Nevertheless, realizing hydrogen’s full potential requires ongoing research, policy support, and investment to overcome technical and economic barriers. In conclusion, hydrogen offers immense promise for decarbonizing industries and promoting a cleaner, sustainable energy future, but concerted efforts are needed to overcome challenges and realize its full benefits. This chapter performs a detailed study of Hydrogen production, transportation and storage systems with high emphasis on the transportation methods. The chapter also discusses the major issues faced by the hydrogen industry, including production, transportation and storage.
