In 2021, UNESCO released a document “Artificial intelligence (AI) and education: guidance for policy-makers,” it aims to generate a shared understanding of the opportunities offered by AI for education, as well as its implications for the essential competencies required by the AI era. It can be considered as a guidebook for the development of policies for AI and education. This article is a brief review of the main objective and recommendations of the document. Through a documentary review, the aim of the current study is to provide a snapshot of this UNESCO document in order to bring about more discussions on the potential of AI technologies in education and the challenges associated with them.
