Sustainable development (SD) covers the field of economic growth of the world with the well-being of individuals and society in an eco-friendly manner. The present chapter discusses the basics and different aspects of SD in a structured way. Thereafter, several policies adopted and initiatives taken are elaborated to achieve the SD goals. These objectives can be divided into economic, social, and environmental. Critical world issues like poverty, hunger, inequality, quality education and healthcare, clean water and energy, climate change, the partnership of nations, policy making, and world peace are elaborated as steps towards SD.
