Food security is achieved when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life. It is determined by food availability, access, utilization and stability of supply, and linked to livelihood security. Food security assessments include indicators of food availability and access, and nutritional status. When a population with adequate access to food is affected by malnutrition, dietary diversity, nutrient intake and affordability of a diet that meets nutrient requirements should be assessed, because people require “Food and Nutrient Security”.
