In these challenging and uncertain times, it is more important than ever to come together, find solutions and support the most vulnerable communities.
The RELX Environmental Challenge, now in its 10th year, awards projects that best demonstrate how they can provide sustainable access to safe water where it is presently at risk and/or access to improved sanitation. The Challenge is open to individuals or organisations operating in the not-for-profit and for-profit sectors. There is a $50,000 first prize and $25,000 second prize, in addition to further support including free access for one year to our ScienceDirect database, the world’s leading source of scientific information.
In recognition of the many challenges surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline for submissions will be extended to 10 July 2020. Judging will take into consideration any restrictions on the ability to outline exact dates within proposed project plans.
All submissions must have clear, practical applicability, address identified need to improved water or sanitation, and advance related issues such as health, education, and/or human rights.
Projects must set a benchmark for innovation and address the following criteria:
* Replicability, scalability and sustainability
* Practical applicability
* Non-discrimination/equity of access
* Involvement of, and impacts on, a range of stakeholders
* Local/community-level engagement
