Stereotype and stereotype threat present difficult challenges to women in STEM. This dual hazard impacts standardized testing as well as workplace acceptance and success. Sexism in the workplace is, at least to some extent, institutionalized, and coworkers are frequently uncertain about how to respond to sexist policies and behaviors. Pregnancy remains a challenge for young professional women, perhaps especially for those in male-dominated STEM fields.
