Both chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and hepatitis D (CHD) are major causes of liver related morbidity and mortality. Treatment indications for CHB are based on level of viremia, inflammation and extent of fibrosis. Treatment may consist of finite pegylated interferon therapy or long-term treatment with nucleo(s)tide analogs. For CHD only pegylated interferon is effective in a subset of patients.
