Nowadays, there is a growing demand and need for new energy solutions for cities able to reduce their energy dependency while mitigating the environmental impacts resulting from the development of human activities. A city is the most explicit human activities arena where energy transition may be pursued, supported by innovation and experimentation toward more efficient consumption patterns. With a sustainable urban planning approach framed in territorial policy instruments more suited to climate change, it is possible to promote the transition toward future cities models based on efficient resource consumption and effective implementation of neutral circular economy urban strategies.
