International Women's Day takes place on March 8, and the theme for this year is accelerate action for gender equality, emphasising the urgent need to address the systemic barriers and biases that women experience in different areas of their personal and professional lives. This urgency is acutely apparent considering political upheaval in the USA, including the termination of policies and practices related to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), and a ban on gender-related terms. Gender equality in health is a basic right, and new approaches could be key to achieving it. In this issue of The Lancet Digital Health, two studies showcase how AI can be used to accelerate action for women's health.
