Asperger syndrome is a pervasive developmental disorder wherein deficits in social functioning and repeated engagements in idiosyncratic interests are accompanied by a relatively well-preserved intellect. Many adolescents suffering from Asperger syndrome experience comorbid conditions such as depression and anxiety. These co-morbidities give rise to additional struggles, including poor educational functioning, reduced workplace skills, and difficulties with independent living. Treatments based on pharmacological or psychological approaches help to alleviate the emotional pain caused by these treatable comorbid disorders. This chapter discusses specifically about the application of cognitive behavior therapy, an evidence-based psychological approach in adolescents suffering from Asperger syndrome with comorbid depressive disorder.
