Neurological disorders cause significant morbidity and mortality. Determining the harm attributable to neurological disorders is fundamental to acknowledging the scale of the problem. The Global Burden of Disease study highlights the significant morbidity and mortality associated with neurological disorders. On a global basis, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) caused by neurological disorders is high, and this chapter briefly reviews this burden. We also make comparisons with cancer and cardiovascular disease.
