The manuscript represents a research agenda for the International Association of Fire Safety Science. The Agenda is based on a discussion of fire safety from a global perspective outlining two main Global Grand Challenges. Fire safety science and engineering research objectives and actions are then outlined in response to the Global Grand Challenges, supporting SDGs 3, 9, 11 and 13.
This article addresses goals 11, 13 and 17 by testing the Adaptigation Framework using the example of municipal advisory committees in Germany and assessing how they influence municipalities’ capacity to institutionalise joint mitigation and adaptation goals in sector policy and planning.
This article addresses goals 1, 3, 11 and 13 by examining the relationship between emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG), outdoor air pollution and levels of socioeconomic development in order to identify specific near-term mitigation policy responses to climate change and air pollution for countries with different levels of human development.

The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction encourages investment in innovation and technology development in disaster risk management. However, needs for science and technology inputs are unmet, and there is a lack of policy making that is based on science and evidence. This article addresses goals 1, 11, 13 and 17 by exploring three key issues that could help overcome these barriers: networking, coproduction of knowledge, and a stronger role played by academia.

This article addresses goals 1, 11 and 13 by shifting the discourse back to basic axioms of why disasters happen so that fundamental actions for applying the axioms can be provided. It also summarises the key findings from past decades of disaster-related research, policy and practice.

This article addresses goals 9, 11 and 17 by summarising the significant advances related to BBB "Build Back Better" research in the past 13 years, and provides an overview of where the BBB concept and related policy and practice are heading in the coming years.
This article addresses goals 9, 11 and 17 by focusing on the appraisal of challenges in SFDRR priority 1 “understanding disaster risk” through the lens of science, technology and innovations.
This articles addresses goals 3, 11, and 13 by reviewing key assessments from the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 °C and examines the implications for the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR).
The number of countries with a national development plan has more than doubled, from about 62 in 2006 to 134 in 2018. This paper analyses the resurgence of national development planning, identifies the types and content of the plans, and their implications and interactions with the SDGs and the global development agenda.
