Design has been applied increasingly to global health and the work of international agencies to improve health and well-being of people in lower income countries. Along with this interest comes a need for understanding how design is operationalised in the context of global health, how designers, global-health stakeholders, and those intended to benefit from global-health programs approach and receive this new synergy. This chapter explores the current state of design as applied to global health, models of how it is carried out, and some of the questions that arise for practitioners. A case study is presented to illustrate a large global-health project with design explicitly incorporated into the heart of the program.
