7th August 2020

In this segment, RELX’s Global Head of Corporate Responsibility, Dr Márcia Balisciano, talks to Joan Walley, Chair of the Aldersgate Group and former Labour MP.

The Aldersgate Group is an alliance of leaders from business, politics and civil society that drives action for a sustainable economy.

Joan was MP for her home area of Stoke-on-Trent North from 1987 to her retirement from parliament in 2015. She was chairman of the Environmental Audit Select Committee from 2010-2015 overseeing numerous inquiries relating to  climate change and sustainability.

Still based in Stoke-on-Trent, she is closely involved with local initiatives affecting local health and well being, is a non-executive of the Combined NHS Trust, a council of fellows member of Keele University, an honorary graduate of Staffordshire University and chair of the Burslem Regeneration Trust which seeks to be a focus for collaboration amongst those who want to see the revival of the historic 'mother' town of the Potteries.

Joan has strived to strike a chord that resonates with just how interconnected are lives are to nature, and accepted an invitation to be patron of the Hard Rain Project.

She loves the North Staffordshire countryside, does what she does for the sake of all our grandchildren and is a season ticket holder passionate about Port Vale Football Club.
