Elsevier, Thinking Skills and Creativity, Volume 56, June 2025
This review explores how opportunities for play in public spaces are essential for children’s health and development, with growing research highlighting the links between outdoor play, learning, and the design of playful urban environments.
This study finds that optimal placement of long-duration energy storage in renewable-heavy power systems depends on multiple interacting factors—such as generation, demand, storage, and transmission—and cannot be determined by any single metric, with siting decisions having system-wide effects.

Hydrogen Production, Transportation, Storage, and Utilization: Theoretical and Practical Aspects, 2025, Pages 417-501

The chapter supports multiple UN SDGs—particularly SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships)—by emphasizing the transition to sustainable hydrogen solutions, advancing infrastructure, promoting innovation, and highlighting the importance of international collaboration to achieve a low-carbon energy future.

This study identified the gene PpNLR1 and its promoter variation as key factors conferring green peach aphid (GPA) resistance in peach, regulated by jasmonate-induced transcription factor PpERF109. Additionally, GPA salivary effectors activate the peach immune response through PpNLR1, offering valuable insights for breeding aphid-resistant peach cultivars.

Head and neck cancer (HNC) is the sixth most prevalent cancer worldwide with a poor prognosis when diagnosed at advanced clinical stages. The main risk factors are tobacco consumption and alcohol abuse. The article discusses the use of liquid biopsies as a minimally invasive diagnostic tool for HPV-positive head and neck cancer, as it could improve access to early cancer detection and monitoring.

International Day of Play 2026

The International Day of Play is observed each year on June 11. Proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2024, this day recognizes the essential role of play in human development. It aims to raise awareness, promote policy change, and support efforts to make play accessible for all—especially children—regardless of background or circumstance.

The Significance of Play

The World Health Organization reports that cervical cancer ranks as the eighth most common cancer worldwide and is the ninth leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Cervical cancer is a significant global health challenge, with high incidence and mortality rates, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. While immunotherapy has emerged as a promising strategy, its efficacy is variable among patients. Predictive biomarkers are essential for identifying patients most likely to benefit from immunotherapy.

This chapter supports SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by promoting sustainable agrifood systems and efficient land-use practices that enhance productivity while reducing environmental impact. It also advances SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) through its focus on carbon-neutral agriculture and responsible land management to mitigate climate change and protect terrestrial ecosystems.
Elsevier, One Earth, Volume 8, 20 June 2025
In response to unprecedented global warming in 2023-2024, expert input identified 10 key climate-change research advances with high policy relevance, informing COP29 delegates on critical issues like adaptation, mitigation, and governance of energy-transition minerals.
This study shows that the growth of fossil-fuel-powered vehicles significantly contributes to rising carbon dioxide levels and global warming, and suggests that investing in clean energy vehicles and implementing effective policies are crucial to reducing climate change and promoting sustainable development. As part of the research, the authors develop a new mathematical model to analyze the impact of fossil fuel vehicle emissions on atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and global warming.
