Progress in Floating Photovoltaic Systems, Chapter 1: Third pillar of photovoltaics: floating photovoltaics

The renewable energy sources (RES) sector is growing at a very high annual rate, with the boom largely dominated by the photovoltaic (PV) sector. In the next few years, the energy produced by the PV sector is expected to surpass the energy produced by eolian sources and even by the more consolidated hydroelectric sector. This dynamic is analyzed, and the role of floating PV (FPV) is considered, taking into account the extremely rapid growth in the initial years and the significant expansion in the last 5 years. A forecast up to 2030 is given for the RES sector, with a hypothesis for FPV development.
