World Wildlife Day 2026: Celebrating Biodiversity and Conservation
Observed annually on March 3, World Wildlife Day raises global awareness of the world’s wild flora and fauna. Established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2013, the day marks the anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973. World Wildlife Day celebrates the intrinsic value of wildlife and its critical contributions to biodiversity, ecosystem health, and human well-being.
In November, 197 countries plus the European Union will convene in Baku, Azerbaijan for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change or COP29. COP29 will bring together world leaders to assess global efforts to advance the Paris Agreement and limit global warming to 1.5°C.
This chapter aligns with SDG Goal 5: Gender Equality and Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being by highlighting gender-specific mental health challenges, advocating for equitable diagnosis and care, and addressing socioeconomic and societal risk factors that disproportionately impact women's mental health, thereby supporting improved health outcomes and gender equality.
