The number of countries with a national development plan has more than doubled, from about 62 in 2006 to 134 in 2018. This paper analyses the resurgence of national development planning, identifies the types and content of the plans, and their implications and interactions with the SDGs and the global development agenda.

This book chapter advances SDG 14 by discussing measures of freshwater species diversity and how and why diversity varies among and within habitats. Also discussed are extinctions caused by humans and some of the associated consequences, as well as consequences of invasive species.

This research develops SDGs 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), 14 (life below water) and 15 (life on land). A new recycling process of the common plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) could help with the urgent problem of ever-increasing amounts of plastic waste in our oceans and the environment.

This article contributes to SDG 13 (climate action) and SDG 14 (life below water), highlighting the importance of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) as effective instruments to conserve biodiversity and its resources.
This study compares different microplastic sampling methods for water, sediment and biota. This supports SDGs 9.5 (enhanced scientific research) 12 (responsible consumption and production) and 14 (life below water).
This article explores a previously overlooked form of microplastic pollution. Directly relevant to SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), SDG 15 (life on land) and SDG 14 (life below water), this research investigates the interactions between tire derived microplastics and organic matter within the environment.

This review discusses the need for standardized research methodologies within freshwater microplastic research. Standardized techniques will improve the accuracy of microplastic abundance records within freshwater environments, supporting progress towards SDG 14 (life below water) and 12 (responsible consumption and production).
Supporting progress towards SDG's 12 (responsible consumption and production) and 14 (life below water), this review discusses microplastic and nanoplastic occurrence in freshwater ecosystems and explores current analytical methods used to characterise them.

TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry, Volume 112, 2019, Pages 234-240.

This research examines the effects of microplastic pollution on aquatic ecosystems from an ecology perspective, supporting SDGs 12 (responsible consumption and production) and 14 (life below water).
