Through a case study of Shiraz, Iran, this article discusses how using smart materials in buildings' facades can help dramatically to attain SDGs 7, 9, 11 and 13.

In high-intensity districts, improvements in government systems were observed, and high-intensity districts were more likely to be open defecation free, but sanitation outcomes can be improved when government systems are strengthened.
