Contributing to Sustainable Development Goals 3 (good health and well-being), 5 (gender equality), 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 10 (reduced inequalities), this research identifies the importance of diversification and gender equity in the scientific workforce and in the research populations to produce effective medical research.
This Canadian study identifies gender pay gaps in research funding are attributable to less favourable assessments of women investigators, not of the quality of their proposed research. Developing SDG 5 (gender equality) and SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth), this research article identifies strategies to foster fair and rigorous academia peer review systems.

In particular, this piece explores women's lag behind men in leadership positions. Transparent hiring processes should be adopted, institutionalising best practices to proactively attract and hire diverse leadership candidates.
Nominated for the July/August 2018 Elsevier Atlas Award, this article contributes to goal 4 on quality education and goal 5 on gender equality. It explores young people's motivations to become future business leaders and in doing so helps to explain the under representation of women among entrepreneurs and top-level managers.
