A sensitivity analysis showed that policies should focus on increasing natural gas tariffs, carbon taxation, investment subsidies or combinations of these routes to encourage sustainable heating within built environments, contributing to SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) and SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities).

Contributing to SDGs 7, 9 and 12, this article suggests research areas that could enable the development of improved recycling methods, with separation technologies identified as the most promising.

The goal of this manuscript is to examine whether the current EU calculation method for the energy efficiency of heat pumps is sufficiently accurate to inform consumers. Simplifications and disregarded influences may lead to disinformation and result in market disturbances. This supports SDG 7 (clean and affordable energy), 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure) and essentially 13 (Climate action).

Waste Li foils from spent experimental Li-coin-cells pose a potential risk and a waste of lithium if they are not treated. For this paper, waste Li foils were recycled in the form of black LiFePO4/C powders with the recovery of about 80%. The recovered LiFePO4/C cathode delivered satisfactory electrochemical performance, advancing SDGs 7, 9 and 12.

In this study, froth flotation experiments were carried out with a variety of new and spent lithium-ion batteries using kerosene as the collector. The results show that the froth flotation method works well in separating anode and cathode materials, and therefore could be integrated with the direct recycling method to close the loop of materials used in Li-ion batteries. This addresses SDGs 7, 9 and 12.

Scottish farmers have been using clean energy technology normally used by buses and bin lorries to power their farm machines, helping to reduce emissions and make efficiencies. This helps to advance both goal 7 and goal 12.
Directly contributing to SDGs 2 (zero hunger), 6 (clean water and sanitation) and 7 (affordable and clean energy), this paper proposes a solar energy enabled desalination process for producing fresh water, electricity generation and hydrogen production.
