This News item supports SDG 3 by describing the work of the PAHO Commission on Mental Health and COVID-19, which was created in order to improve mental health care in the Latin America and Caribbean region in light of the mental health crisis resulting from the pandemic. The article describes the 10 recommendations set forth by the Commission, and the opportunities and implications of these recommendations.

Castellanos-Barliza and León-Peláez 2023 investigated the recovery of physical-chemical and biological properties of Technosols in a chronosequence of drylands (over 7,10 and 21 years) in the El Cerrejón coal mine in Colombia. Their results showed significant improvements in soil properties, especially near the surface, with notable increases in soil N content and P solution after 7 years. Enhanced vegetation development over time contributed to higher soil organic matter, indicating successful rehabilitation and positive impacts of the restoration strategy in degraded mine spoils.
This Article supports SDG 3 and 10 by showing that among Indigenous children in Brazil (of the Guarani birth cohort), severely compromised living conditions were noted, and inequalities in the frequency of social and environmental risk factors between the Indigenous children. The authors note that policies are needed to improve housing, water and sanitation, and wealth conditions among people in Indigenous communities.
Introduction and Objectives: We aimed to analyze the trends of total and sex-stratified mortality from hepatitis C virus (HCV) and to estimate the proportion of non-alcoholic liver disease deaths in Mexico attributable to HCV from 2001-2017. Materials and Methods: Using the mortality multiple-cause dataset, we selected the codes for acute HCV and chronic HCV to analyze trends from 2001 to 2017.
