This paper argues that product stewardship strategies that integrate environmental information along the value chain help enable the transition to a more circular economy. Examples from automotive, ship and aircraft industries are presented, analyzed and discussed. This article explores how the development of a more circular economy supports several of the SDGs, including SDGs 8, 9 and 12 by examining the opportunities sustainable manufacturing offer.
The development of new high-efficiency magnets and/or electric traction motors using a limited amount of critical rare earths or none at all is crucial for the large-scale deployment of electric vehicles (EVs) and related applications, such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and e-bikes. This article shows that the permanent magnet synchronous-traction motor (PSM) remains the technology of choice, especially for hybrid vehicles (HEV and PHEV). Better material efficiency and a larger adoption of motors free of rare earths have the potential to reduce the pressure on rare earths supply for use in electric road transport applications. Reduced reliance on rare earths supports both SDG 9 and SDG 11.
Thirty years of public health research have demonstrated that improved indoor environmental quality is associated with better health outcomes. Recent research has demonstrated an impact of the indoor environment on cognitive function. In high-performing buildings additional benefits to health and productivity may be obtained through green certification. This relates to SDGs 3, 9 and 11.
The Blueprint for Business Leadership on the SDGs aims to inspire all business — regardless of size, sector or geography — to take leading action in support of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It illustrates how the five leadership qualities of Ambition, Collaboration, Accountability, Consistency, and Intentional can be applied to a business' strategy, business model, products, supply chain, partnerships, and operations to raise the bar and create impact at scale. The Blueprint is a tool for any business that is ready to advance its principled approach to SDG action to become a leader. This chapter relates specifically to SDG 9.

Challenges and Opportunities in Urban Public Transportation, Chapter 7, 2017, Pages 95–107

Green innovations will be significant in reducing climate change impacts and contributing to goals 9 (industry, innovation and infrastructure), 11 (sustainable cities and communities) and 13 (climate action). This chapter considers a number of sustainable and innovative transport and infrastructure options to support these goals.
The HPCC Systems Team collaborates with multiple higher learning institutions globally to help train and develop the future managers of Big Data projects. Participating institutions receive free training classes and materials to learn the platform and help incorporate it into their curriculum. Students benefit from learning and working with a platform that was designed from the ground up by industry leader, LexisNexis. This programme advances SDG 4 Quality education and SDG 9.B to support domestic technology development, research and innovation in developing countries.

HPCC Systems offers free introductory online training classes for anyone wanting to learn the basics of the ECL programming language and the open source HPCC Systems platform. Included in the training are self-paced lessons, lab exercises and a moderated Q&A forum to increase proficiency for solving Big Data problems. HPCC Systems training advances SDG 4 Quality education and SDG 9.B to support domestic technology development, research and innovation in developing countries.
