Atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration has been increasing in the last two decades and, as a major greenhouse gas, it has been linked to global warming and climate changes. Capture and conversion of CO2 into fuels and chemicals offer opportunities to mitigate the increasing CO2 buildup, while simultaneously adding value to CO2. The main limitation in CO2 conversion is its high thermodynamic stability, thus requiring catalysts and energy input to drive the transformation. In this article, the authors discuss specific reaction pathways, mainly via catalytic hydrogenation and tandem processes for CO2 conversion in hydrocarbons, olefins, aromatics, and alcohols, contributing to SDGs 9 and 13.

Among the major pollutants in the atmosphere, carbon oxides are the result of multiple factors, mainly due to human activities. Nowadays, the decrease in carbon oxides emissions represents a pressing challenge necessary to limit their harmful effects on the climate change. As a result, numerous strategies dedicated to the environmental preservation are currently under study and, among these, all that kind of technologies that produce power from renewable sources offer promising solutions. In this article, the Power-to-Gas technology is investigated, advancing SDGs 7, 9 and 13.

This journal article advances SDG 3 and 10 by explaining analysis of paediatric severe sepsis in the USA which has found evidence of outcome disparities by race or ethnicity and insurance status. The findings suggest that there might be differential sepsis recognition, approaches to treatment, access to health-care services, and provider bias that contribute to poorer sepsis outcomes for racial and ethnic minority patients and those of lower socioeconomic position.

Chitosan provides films with additional antioxidant and/or antimicrobial features. Blending with other biopolymers is a simple and cost-effective route to improvement.Chitosan-based films may replace fossil-based packaging for some applications.Future research on chitosan-based films and sustainable materials, in general, should include biodegradability among the targeted parameters.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced sudden transformation in many sectors of the global community, turning the world upside down. Everything has been impacted, not excluding the education sector, which has experienced some unforeseen changes in many parts of the world. The sudden transition to online pedagogy as a result of COVID-19 in developing countries has exposed some inequalities and challenges, as well as benefits. Winner of the Elsevier Atlas Award in December 2020, this article contributes to SDGs 3 and 4 by proposing suggestions so that the challenges presented by the new approach can be mitigated while we come to terms with the disruptions introduced by COVID-19 to the education sector.
