This report, conducted by Elsevier in collaboration with SciDev.net, contributes to the understanding of sustainability science as a research field and the dialogue between science and society in sustainable development. The report is relevant to all 17 SDGs as it underlines the inter-disciplinary nature of sustainability science and the impact that has on the success of the SDGs. The report helps to advance SDG 4 Quality education and SDG 10 Reduced inequalities.
This report demonstrates how companies can help to advance all 17 SDGs by operating responsibly in alignment with universal principles and finding opportunities to innovate to address societal challenges. Through a commitment to the UN Global Compact, companies are taking the first step to contribute to achieving the SDGs and have access to a range of tools to scale up their efforts.

Serious questions remain about the ability of NGOs to meet long-term transformative goals in their work for development and social justice. We investigate how, given their weak roots in civil society and the rising tide of technocracy that has swept through the world of foreign aid, most NGOs remain poorly placed to influence the real drivers of social change.
